Truckers could become an endangered species

America needs a lot more truck drivers. There will be a shortage of nearly 50,000 truckers in the United States by the end of this year, according a new report by the American Trucking Association (ATA). Social media use among those 65 and older on the rise

Social media use among those 65 and older has more than tripled in five years, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis. The study found that 35 percent in that demographic jumped on social media regularly. That is up from 11 percent in 2010. More at the Orlando Sentinel.

Publix's first on-campus store in the works

Publix Super Markets wants to go to college. The Lakeland-based grocer is in talks to open its first college campus store at the University of South Florida, as part of a proposed $133 million student village. More at the Lakeland Ledger.

Pahokee recycling operation to create 200 jobs

Two hundred jobs are expected to be created by Sunshine State Biomass Cooperative in Pahokee, the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County said Thursday. Sunshine State plans to make a $5 million capital investment in its yard-waste recycling operation. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Stone crab season opens with new rules

Stone crab season starts next week, and fishermen in three Florida counties are facing new rules about the types of traps they can use. Statewide, fishermen are allowed to use up to five traps per person. The claws on a crab must be at least 2 ¾ inches in order for them to be harvested. More at the AP.
