Income growth slows in Florida — but still beats U.S rate

Growth in personal income slowed in Florida in June but still outpaced the nation's, according to estimates released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. In Florida, personal income grew 1.1 percent from April through June compared with 0.9 percent nationally, the federal agency estimated. [Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel]

Florida passed 227 bills during its annual special session and 27 of those become laws on Thursday. They address issues ranging from revenge porn and prostitution to training law enforcement officers on how to recognize health emergencies brought on by diabetes.

› State offers cash for captured pythons
Snake hunters can again prowl the Florida Everglades in January in pursuit of pythons and $5,000. Registration begins Thursday for the state's second Python Challenge, a month-long competition staged by the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission to reduce the impact of the invasive snake.

› FedEx plans massive facility on Gulf Coast
A new FedEx Ground distribution center is planned for Fort Myers. Kansas City-based Jones Development Co. purchased 21.91 acres near Southwest Florida International Airport, in two transactions for $2.2 million.

› Gainesville developers changing landscape in all directions
Major development projects that will bring new retail, office and apartment buildings are under construction around Gainesville in various stages of progress.
