Only 12 percent of Florida's unemployed receive benefits compared with the national average of 27 percent. Florida's rate ties with South Carolina, for the lowest rate of all 53 states and jurisdictions administering unemployment insurance programs, according to a report released today. Margaritaville plans 'soft opening' Tuesday
Parrotheads, the wait is almost over. Soon you'll be able to vacation away in Margaritaville. The new 349-room Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort will have a "soft opening" Tuesday, welcoming a 150-person corporate group and its first leisure customers, General Manager Cate Farmer said Monday. Port Canaveral seeks attraction ideas for Cove area

For those of you whose passport is expiring soon, get ready to wait — perhaps for a long time. Beginning in 2017, the wait time for renewal could jump to as much as 10 weeks, or more. Now, it takes four to six weeks. An improving economy, cheaper airfares and more disposable income may spark overseas travel and create a logjam at the passport office, the U.S. State Department predicts.

Americans throwing out twice as much trash as thought
Americans are sending more than twice as much trash to landfills as the federal government has estimated, according to a new study. It turns out that on average America tosses five pounds of trash per person per day into its landfills.
