Another big drop in initial jobless claims

Initial jobless claims fell 11,000 to 264,000 last week, the lowest level in two months, according to the Department of Labor. Economists had estimated that first-time claims for unemployment insurance totaled 275,000 last week, unchanged from the prior period. Palm Beach County to consider $1 million in incentives for two manufacturers

Both projects are manufacturing operations, which would be unusual additions for Palm Beach County, whose job gains have been mostly in business and professional services. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

B/E Aerospace to slash 450 jobs, close some facilities

The Wellington-based aircraft cabin and interior products manufacturer said it would incur $30 million in after-tax changes during the third quarter because of the reductions. More at the South Florida Business Journal.

Carnival Corporation's 2020 sustainability goals

The Florida-based travel and leisure company says it will increase water efficiency, reducing waste production, reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions. Key sustainability goals for Carnival also include commitments to the health, safety and security of guests and crewmembers. Read more here.

71% of Floridians plan a trip this fall

There’s no reason to think 2015-2016 won’t be another great period for Florida tourism, and there are signs the improving economy also will be pushing permanent residents of the Sunshine State to hit the roads and airports in the fall. More at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
