National foreclosure inventory shrinks 28% since last year

The national foreclosure inventory declined by 27.9% and completed foreclosures declined by 24.4% since July 2014, according to the latest foreclosure report from CoreLogic. More from Housing Wire and Consumer Affairs.

Small business confidence rises slightly in August

U.S. small business confidence rose modestly in August, suggesting the economy continued to grow at a steady clip halfway through the third quarter. The National Federation of Independent Business says its Small Business Optimism Index gained half a point to 95.9 last month. More at Reuters.

Gasoline prices falling to lowest point of year

Gasoline prices should fall further this fall and winter as the busy summer travel season comes to an end, travel club AAA says. Prices for the the Labor Day weekend were the lowest in 11 years because of an oil glut worldwide. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

AutoNation donating $1 million to fight breast cancer

AutoNation, the country's largest auto retailer, is launching a campaign to fight breast cancer that features giveaways of pink plate covers at its dealerships, a pitch for customer donations and at least $1 million of the company's own cash for the nonprofit Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Shoe store, devotees inspiring hundreds to get active

Despite slipping sales and the death of co-founder Hans Huseby, the South Miami-based shoe store FootWorks and the nonprofit TeamFootWorks inspire hundreds to get active. More at the Miami Herald.

Taking a toll

tollbooth Since the Card Sound Bridge opened in 1969, the toll has been the same — 50 cents per axle, cash only. The sight of a person inside a toll booth is becoming increasingly rare and the toll plaza on Card Sound Road is one of the last remaining manned toll facilities in South Florida.
