U.S. factory orders slump in April

Manufacturers have struggled in recent months with a pair of global economic pressures. The stronger dollar has increased the cost of U.S.-made goods overseas. At the same time, cheaper oil prices have slashed demand from energy firms for pipelines and equipment. More at the AP and Reuters.

Whole Foods Market has opened a 28,000-square-foot Bakehouse in Pompano Beach.

From that facility, the grocer bakes bread and other goods (12,000 pounds of bread a day) for its 24 stores in Florida.

Mac Papers officials announced they have completed an acquisition of “substantially all the assets” of a company known as Packaging Professionals Inc. in Lewisburg, Tenn. The company acquired by Mac is a distributor of protective packaging materials and equipment. More at the Florida Times-Union.
