Florida leads U.S. in annual foreclosures
In the month of September, 46,000 U.S. home foreclosures were completed, up 4.7% from the previous month but down 32.6% from 68,000 in September of 2013, according to research firm CoreLogic. Florida earns B for education policies
A national organization has given Florida a B grade for its education policies, putting it second in the nation. Today, Virginia-based American Legislative Exchange Council issued its Report Card on American Education, which awarded letter grades based on six facets of states' education policies. Publix to pay $6.8 million to job applicants
Publix Super Markets Inc. is scheduled to pay nearly $6.8 million in a class-action lawsuit settlement over background checks. The lawsuit, being handled in Tennessee federal court, alleges that Lakeland-based Publix violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act. More at the Tampa Bay Times.
Jobs grow 3 percent in South Florida
South Florida ranks fourth in job growth nationwide, up 3 percent in the first nine months of the year compared with last year, according to W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
