Doubts grow that Crist can beat Scott

The race between Rick Scott and Charlie Crist for Florida governor has long been seen as a toss-up but conventional wisdom has shifted decidedly in Gov. Scott's favor. The last four public polls point to a neck and neck race, variously showing Scott ahead by up to 5 percentage points and Crist ahead by up to 3. More at the Tampa Bay Times.


More businesses are closing than starting. Can Congress help turn that around?

Americans are starting fewer businesses, new companies are going out of business more quickly, and the new firms that do get off the ground are creating fewer jobs. None of that bodes very well for an economy still trying to find its footing. More at the Washington Post.

Florida orange growers could replant 6 million trees under new fed program

Florida’s citrus growers whose groves are affected by a deadly citrus disease can recoup some of the cost of tree removal and replanting under a federal program announced Wednesday. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said that the Tree Assistance Program is now being extended to Florida growers affected by citrus greening. More at Fresh Plaza.

Citrix acquires Delray Beach startup Virtual

Fort Lauderdale-based Citrix announced Wednesday the acquisition of a startup that provides a cloud-based virtualization platform for iOs and Android. The acquisition of Virtual, a Delray Beach startup, will help accelerate innovation across Citrix mobile workspace apps. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
