› Billionaire environmentalist takes aim at Scott
A hedge fund billionaire-turned-environmentalist who is seeking to boost the political importance of climate change has his eye on knocking off Florida Gov. Rick Scott. San Francisco-based NextGen Climate Action Committee last month gave $750,000 to its Florida committee, the first contribution in the state. On its website, Scott is listed as one of seven Republican candidates the group is targeting.

› Southwest airlines and SeaWorld part ways after 26 years
Southwest and SeaWorld announced they are ending their partnership when the contract expires at the end of the year. The promotional and marketing partnership began in 1988. But Southwest has been criticized by an animal rights group for its partnership with SeaWorld. A recent documentary, Blackfish, raised questions about the park's treatment of orcas, details of which SeaWorld disputed.

› Used-car superstore AutoMatch coming to Southwest Florida
AutoMatch USA, a used-car superstore, plans to open in Fort Myers this October. Morton Grove, Ill.-based AutoMatch was created in February by Camping World and Good Sam CEO Marcus Lemonis. The chain has locations in Morton Grove, a Chicago suburb, and Jacksonville; and plans to open in Ocala; Salt Lake City; Bakersfield, Calif.; and Avondale, Ariz.

› UF study advances 'DNA revolution,' tells butterflies' evolutionary history
By tracing nearly 3,000 genes to the earliest common ancestor of butterflies and moths, University of Florida scientists have created an extensive “Tree of Lepidoptera” in the first study to use large-scale, next-generation DNA sequencing. Among the study’s more surprising findings: Butterflies are more closely related to small moths than to large ones, which completely changes scientists’ understanding of how butterflies evolved.
