South Florida economy grew faster than U.S. average

South Florida's economy grew 3.5 percent in 2012, outpacing the U.S. average metro increase of 2.5 percent and leading the other Florida metro areas, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The economic engine in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties kicked into high gear last year, increasing fivefold from the weak 0.7 percent growth in 2010. Deal will expand juice sales opportunities

A marketing deal between Wm. G. Roe & Sons Inc. and the Seminole Tribe of Florida will expand sales opportunities for the juice brands at both companies. "When we looked at this opportunity, we both thought we could be much more competitive," said Quentin Roe, president of the Winter Haven-based family citrus company. More at the Lakeland Ledger.

Tampa-based technology services firm Tribridge is expanding. The company, which employs 500, plans to buy Intelladon, a 100-employee talent management consultant company also based in Tampa.

Dania Jai Alai closing poker room during renovation

Poker dealers at Dania Jai Alai found grim news posted in the employee locker room when they arrived for work over the weekend: They'd be out of jobs on Sept. 23. Dania Jai Alai will close its poker room and sports bar next Monday as the fronton embarks on a major renovation that will bring slot machines. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Sebelius In Florida Promoting Affordable Care Act

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will make her third trip to the Sunshine State in the past week to continue trying to inform people about the Affordable Care Act, which launches October 1. More at CBS Miami.
