Sweetbay closing 33 stores in Florida

| 1/17/2013

Florida's grocery wars chalked up another casualty as Sweetbay Supermarket announced it will shutter 33 stores in the state. Some of the stores are located in Central Florida but most are on Florida's Gulf side, from Naples to Homossassa. (Google map below.) Sweetbay's Belgian parent company, Delhaize Group, said the move to close a third of its Florida stores was needed to improve its U.S. results. About 2,000 employees will lose their jobs.
