Who Said That?

Florida's quote of the day

| 11/14/2012

"I had to put the phone down and I was like, 'this has got to stop, this has got to stop.'"

-- Coral Springs Charter School Principal Gary Springer

Adam Hude drove the black Nissan with one hand on the wheel and the other busy texting on his iPhone.

The pixelated pedestrian didn't have a chance.

"I was driving and looked down at my text to finish it and I looked up and there was a person on the road and I accidentally hit him," Hude explained later with a sheepish grin. "He died. I killed a person."

The Coral Springs Charter School senior was able to walk away scot-free from the fatal wreck only because it was a simulated texting-while-driving crash at his school.

Hude and dozens of his classmates on Tuesday took turns driving a simulator aimed at steering teens away from the dangerous driving habit. The event is part of AT&Ts ongoing "Texting & Driving: It Can Wait" campaign, now in its third year.
