BOCA RATON -- Jet Turbine Service, which builds and repairs parts for turbine engines used in aviation and power plants, has been acquired by Siemens Westinghouse, an Orlando-based division of German electronics company Siemens AG.REAL ESTATE:
Splitting the Vanderbilt Estate
MANALAPAN -- The Vanderbilt estate, which boasts Palm Beach County's longest stretch of privately owned beach at 500 feet, may be subdivided to create a second, 150-foot oceanfront lot on the property's south side. The estate, built in 1929 for the great-grandson of railroad baron Cornelius Vanderbilt, is owned by Veronica Hearst, widow of Randolph Hearst.Codina Development bought 54 acres in the Arvida Park of Commerce for $23.4 million. A Codina real estate broker says the company has no plans for the property yet.

BOYNTON BEACH -- Bethesda Memorial Hospital has joined with Mobile Medical Industries, also of Boynton Beach, to begin providing home medical visits by doctors, nurses and health aides. The partnership, dubbed CareServices of Bethesda, also offers some in-home diagnostic tests, like X-rays and blood work.

A deal begun last month calls for Boynton Beach to buy up to 8 million gallons of water a day from Palm Beach County for up to five years. The city's own supply is adequate for its current needs, but a development boom is expected to put added pressure on city water supplies.

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Stephen Snyder, formerly vice president of product development and operations for online sports information company SportsLine.com, has moved into the company's top executive position as part of a reorganization following the company's sale to CBS Sports. Snyder replaces SportsLine founder and Chief Executive Mike Levy, who has left the company.

Marsha Ellison has been sworn in as president of the Fort Lauderdale NAACP, becoming the second woman to lead the local organization.

JENSEN BEACH -- The Treasure Coast Square Mall, owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, is undergoing $10 million in renovations, expected to be completed by August.

JUPITER -- Miami-based BAP Development is seeking approval for a waterfront development at Indiantown Road and U.S. 1. The seven-acre project would include condominiums, office space, shops and restaurants, as well as 49 marina slips.

MANGONIA PARK -- A decision by town council members to reject plans for a 10-story condominium and 150,000 square feet of retail space on the site of a former jai alai fronton has spawned dueling lawsuits between property owner and boxing promoter Don King and developer EB Acquisitions.

PALM BEACH COUNTY -- The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area ranks fourth and Fort Lauderdale ninth in the Milken Institute's "2004 Best Performing Cities Index." The non-profit economic think tank ranked seven Florida areas in the top 20 nationally based on their ability to create and sustain jobs. The Fort Myers-Cape Coral area tops the list.

PLANTATION -- Pharmaceutical company executive Elliot F. Hahn, co-founder of Davie-based Andrx and former vice president of Miami-based IVAX, has been named president of SoLapharm, a cardiology products startup.

PORT EVERGLADES -- Port operating revenue in fiscal year 2004 swelled to more than $100 million, up 26% over fiscal year 2003.

STUART -- More than 1,000 people are vying for a chance to buy one of 198 luxury condominiums going up along the St. Lucie River. The Harborage Yacht Club, with completion planned for 2006, is being built by The Altman Cos. of Boca Raton.
