County Courthouse

More Affordable Plans

Bob Snell | 2/1/2006
Mayor John Peyton and Chief Judge Donald Moran agreed to plans for a drastically scaled back version of the new Duval County Courthouse. The $140-million facility barely resembles the original $300-million expansion project that was part of the city's Better Jacksonville Plan. That blueprint was shelved when costs rose far beyond the $200 million originally budgeted for the project. Peyton and Moran characterized the new courthouse -- along with $35 million in additions and renovations to other judicial buildings -- as a short-term solution.
