Voters Pass Strong Mayor Plan

David Villano | 3/1/2006
Miami-Dade voters approved a plan to shift some powers from the county commission to the county mayor. The mayor also received authority over the county's $6.9-billion budget and 30,000 employees. The commission called the measure a power grab by county Mayor Carlos Alvarez.
