Publlishing

Targeting Young Readers

| 5/1/2006

Times Publishing Co., which publishes the St. Petersburg Times, has expanded its tbt* Tampa Bay Times to five days a week. The free tabloid, geared toward young adults, had been published weekly since its start in 2004.

Competitor Tampa Tribune sued Times Publishing in February, claiming that Tampa Bay Times is too similar to "The Tampa Times," the name of an evening newspaper it published until 1982. A judge in March ruled that Times Publishing could continue to use the existing logo for tbt* Tampa Bay Times while the suit is pending. A countersuit by Times Publishing is also pending.
