Recognizing Excellence

Lynda Keever | 8/1/2006

These seven plaques are the newest additions to the impressive collection of awards that Florida Trend's editorial and art team has earned over the past 48 years. The fact that 61 publications from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Australia submitted a record-breaking 680 entries for this year's Alliance of Area Business Publications competition makes these especially rewarding. And it's no small feat to bring home the top award for Best Magazine up against such stiff competition.

Comments by the University of Missouri School of Journalism faculty who judged the competition reflect their appreciation of our efforts to look at stories from fresh, unconventional angles, and that's what you, our readers, have come to expect in each and every issue. Our editorial staff's 2005 work also was recognized by the American Society of Business Publication Editors with two national awards for government coverage and news analysis and three regional awards for a technical article, an individual/ company profile and a feature article. I've heard from many of you over the past year that the magazine is covering Florida, its businesses and its executives better than it ever has. These awards are just seven more reasons why Florida Trend is a must read.

Ballot Box

When eating out, if calories are shown on the menu, how much does that sway your choice?

  • A lot: I will adjust to get less fattening item
  • Some: I may choose something else, if appealing, but not always
  • Not at all: I don't pay attention to that.
