Checks and Balances

Jeff Brooks | 9/1/2006
State Senate candidate Randall Terry had to revise a fund-raising letter and return hundreds of dollars in campaign contributions after election officials determined the letter violated state laws. Terry, a nationally known abortion rights opponent, is challenging Sen. Jim King for the District 8 seat. Terry's campaign letter requested contributions exceeding $500 and did not include legal disclaimers. Florida law requires legal disclaimers and limits individual contributions to $500. According to the Terry campaign, the errors have been corrected and the checks above $500 returned.
