Gaetz Headed to Senate; Childers to Prison

? Okaloosa County Schools Superintendent Don Gaetz will resign in November to take a seat in the Florida Senate. Gaetz, a Republican, takes the post being vacated by Charlie Clary, who reached his term limit.

? Former state Sen. W.D. Childers has begun serving a 3½-year prison term for offenses committed while serving on the Escambia County Commission. Convicted in 2003 of bribing a fellow commissioner and of unlawful compensation, Childers remained free on bond during a series of appeals.
