Florida State University set a record in fiscal year 2005-06 in total research grants, at $190 million, a 17.9% increase over the previous year's $161.1 million. Top draws for funding: National High Magnetic Field Laboratory research, with $33.7 million in grants, and Learning Systems Institute, at $17.7 million.

Ruth Campbell retired last month as director of Homestead’s Historic Town Hall Museum . . . at the age of 97. She was known as the grande dame of Homestead after serving the city for more than seven decades.
