Florida Small Business Briefs - Feb. 2007

Barbara Miracle | 2/1/2007

? In a move to prevent big businesses from getting federal contracts designed for small companies, the U.S. Small Business Administration has announced new regulations requiring small businesses to recertify their size status periodically. The regulation, however, does not require termination of the contract if size status changes.

? In November, Melbourne-based AuthenTec was named High Growth Company of the Year, and Tallahassee-based eLayaway was selected Small Business of the Year by ITFlorida.com, a statewide, non-profit technology membership organization. AuthenTec makes biometric fingerprint sensor security equipment, and eLayaway
is a pay-as-you-go system for internet shopping.

? The Orlando Chamber of Commerce will host its 2007 Hispanic Summit June 28-29 at the Hyatt Regency International Airport. The event is designed for business, government and community leaders.
