? The Beacon Council has awarded its top honor, the Jay Malina Award, to Ivax Pharmaceutical founder Phillip Frost. The award is given annually to the person who contributes the most to the growth of his or her industry in Miami-Dade.

? Osvaldo Vento, president and CEO of Everglades Lumber & Building Supply has been named president of the Latin Builders Association.

? Gov. Charlie Crist has tapped Ana M. Viamonte-Ros of Coral Gables, a physician with a background in prison health services, to serve as the state's first surgeon general and as Florida's health secretary.
