I think the survey response [53% plan to increase wages at the rate of inflation] is absolutely positive. We are looking at both a national economy that is constrained and a state economy that is constrained. To be in that kind of economy and be able to say to employees, “You’re not going to lose out; you’re at least going to be able to keep pace with inflation,” is a positive message. It’s also a positive message from businesses in our state — they are making enough money to make investments in their company and are also willing to continue investing in their employees. In a constrained economy, such investments illustrate how Florida’s businesses recognize the competitive value of attracting and retaining talented employees.
