Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital will double in size by late 2022

Mike Vogel | 7/30/2021

Memorial Healthcare System in south Broward expects to complete the expansion of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to more than 300,000 square feet and eight stories by late 2022 as it responds to high demand for pediatric care in its region.

The project will add 72 patient rooms, two cardiac hybrid operating rooms, two surgical suites, intensive care and cardiac intensive care units, an MRI, play zones, rehab and family areas. “They do a remarkable job of making the hospital not feel like a hospital,” says former Major Leaguer Jeff Conine, who knew the hospital’s namesake and has supported the hospital for more than 25 years. The hospital foundation has raised $38 million toward a fund-raising goal of $56 million for the $165 million project. (The $56-million target was picked to reflect DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak in 1941.)
